I believe my communicating skills through art have improved since I had to have meaning behind everything I included in my piece.
The purpose of this piece was to convey how my boyfriend's embrace can make all my pieces come together. I portrayed him as being the moon and stars and I the sun since we say to eachother "I love you to the moon and back." I used acrylic paint on a canvas board to achieve this piece.

I really loved this photo at first glance. It has so many different levels and it's so mysterious. I also enjoyed how it includes mixed media into this piece by having a partial, broken lads hanging down and some rocks hanging down. I love the artistic style of this piece. After reading the information about it, I realized how the artist intriguingly conveyed the meaning of her piece through the weird shape and vivid colors. The piece of the blue parallelogram is the artwork I despised the most. I think that is was simple, and has no artistic meaning behind it. I think it's pointless for this piece to take up so much space let alone have a place in the museum.
My question was: What is hope?
I created this piece to answer the question of "What is hope?" because I have found myself many times doubting my own possibilities in life. The rope symbolizes the restraints that I have formerly put on myself that are now being slowly released and the word "imagine" reminds me of what could be instead of what isn't. I believe the meaning behind art cannot be fully shown through the work but rather, individually felt. People can assemble a meaning that would appear to be logical to the piece but does not correlate to the feeling behind the creation of it. Whether art is a decoration or filled with a deeper meaning, it doesn't matter. As long as the beholder has an intangible connection to the piece, that's all that matters. People can speculate how meaningful something is to someone without fully knowing in what way it connects with them. Therefore, art without meaning is subjective. I chose this medium because it worked well with my use of watercolor in this piece. My element was value and color. The purpose of this piece was to show a girl who is visibly broken in the inside. This concept is a portrayal of a personal experience of mine. |
